Albert D. Friesen, Ph.D., President and Chairman
Albert D. Friesen holds a Ph.D. in protein chemistry from the University of Manitoba. He has been instrumental in the founding and development of several health industry companies, including ABI Biotechnology (now Apotex Fermentation), Canada's first profitable biotech company, and the Winnipeg Rh Institute, where he led the development of Canada's first biotech product, WinRho. Dr. Friesen has also played a key role in a number of regional and national organizations, including a founder and first Board of Director Chair of the Industrial Biotechnology Association of Canada (now BIOTECanada). He is President and founder of Genesys Venture Inc. (GVI), which provides the expertise for launching and managing emerging health and biotechnology ventures. He has served as CEO and Chair of Medicure Inc. since he led its formation in 1997.
Gerald P. McDole, MBA
Gerald P.McDole retired as President and Chief Executive Officer of AstraZeneca Canada Inc's pharmaceutical operations at the end of 2003 after a long and distinguished career. He was appointed in April 1999 to lead the merger of Astra Pharma Inc. and Zeneca Pharma Inc. Mr. McDole was formerly President and Chief Executive Officer of Astra Pharma Inc., a position he assumed in 1985 after serving as the company's Executive Vice-President. Mr. McDole is currently using his broad experience to assist several Canadian Biotech and Pharmaceutical companies.
In 1999, Mr. McDole was recognized as the Businessperson of the year by the Mississauga Board of Trade and in 2002 was inducted into the Canadian Healthcare Marketing Hall of Fame. Upon his retirement a one million dollar research endowment was established in his honor at The University of Manitoba entitled the "Gerry McDole Research Fellowship Award" in Improved Healthcare Delivery to Rural, Remote & Underserved Populations in Manitoba.
Mr.McDole holds a B.Sc. and a Certificate of Business Management from the University of Manitoba, a Business Administration Diploma from the University of Toronto School of Business and an MBA from Simon Fraser University in B.C.
Arnold Naimark, M.D.
Dr. Arnold Naimark, (O.C., O,M., M.D., LLD (Hon) F.R.C.P. (C), F.R.S.C., FAHS) has had a distinguished career in medicine and highereducation. He served consecutively as Head of the Department of Physiology, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and as President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Manitoba. He is currently Director of the University's Centre for the Advancement of Medicine; Chair of Genome Prairie, Vice-Chair of the Manitoba Health Research Council, Chair-designate of CancerCare Manitoba, Member of the National Statistics Council and of the Research Council of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research.
Previously, Dr. Naimark served as Founding Chair of the Canadian Health Services Research Foundation,the Canadian Biotechnology Advisory Committee and as chair, president or director of several other national and international bodies in the fields of higher education, research and international development. He has also served as chair or director of corporations in both the public and private sectors.
Peter Quick
Mr. Quick's professional career includes leading and advising one of North America's largest brokerage firms, as well as one of its largest stock exchanges. Mr. Quick is past President and CEO of Quick & Reilly, Inc. and a former President of the Amex. Mr. Quick has also served on the Board of Governors of the Chicago Stock Exchange and as Chairman of the Midwest Securities Trust Company. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for Reckson Associates, the Board of Directors for Fund For The Poor, the Board of Governors of St. Francis Hospital on Long Island, and the National Selection Committee for the Jefferson Scholars Program of the University of Virginia.
Mr. Quick received a bachelor's degree in engineering from the University of Virginia and attended Stanford University's Graduate School of Petroleum Engineering. He was a lieutenant in the United States Navy, and served four years active duty.
