Albert D. Friesen, Ph.D., CEO
Albert D. Friesen holds a Ph.D. in protein chemistry from the University of Manitoba. He has been instrumental in the founding and development of several health industry companies, including ABI Biotechnology (now Apotex Fermentation), Canada's first profitable biotech company, and the Winnipeg Rh Institute, where he led the development of Canada's first biotech product, WinRho. Dr. Friesen has also played a key role in a number of regional and national organizations, including a founder and first Board of Director Chair of the Industrial Biotechnology Association of Canada (now BIOTECanada). He is President and founder of Genesys Venture Inc. (GVI), which provides the expertise for launching and managing emerging health and biotechnology ventures. He has served as CEO and Chair of Medicure Inc. since he led its formation in 1997.
Dawson J. Reimer, MAES, President & COO
Dawson Reimer proceeded from a Master's in Economic Development from the University of Waterloo to a community development position with the Federal Department of Western Diversification. Following this, he began his career in the life science/pharma sector as Manager of Business Development/Investor Relations with Genesys Pharma Inc., a biotechnology research company. In 1997 he helped establish Genesys Venture Inc. (GVI), a for-profit biotech business incubator. As part of GVI, Dawson played a role in the creation of several ventures, one of which was Medicure Inc. Mr. Reimer has been employed by Medicure since 2001 and held a variety of management positions in corporate, clinical, and commercial operations prior to assuming the position of President and COO in 2011.
Mr. Reimer also serves as Secretary, Medicure Pharma, Inc. Somerset, NJ.
James Kinley, CA, CFO
Mr. Kinley is responsible for the financial operations of Medicure through its contract with Genesys Venture, Inc. Previously, Mr. Kinley was Manager, Financial Reporting at Manitoba Telecom Services Ltd. (MTS). His responsibilities included the review and distribution of external quarterly and annual financial statements, internal financial statements and board reporting packages. He was also significantly involved in the conversion from Canadian Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). Mr.Kinley has extensive experience working with publicaly traded entities, having provided financial reporting services for a number of stock exchange listed real estate investment trusts (REITs) from 2006 to 2008. Prior to this time he was an Audit Senior at Ernst & Young, LLP. Mr Kinley is a Chartered Accountant and holds a B.Comm (Honours) degree from the I.H. Asper School of Business (University of Manitoba).
