About Neil Owens, PhD

Neil Owens is the President and COO of Medicure Inc., a pharmaceutical company focused on the development and commercialization of therapeutics for the U.S. market. Since taking on this role in mid-2019, Dr. Owens has been responsible for implementing Medicure's strategic plans, overseeing operations, and guiding the company from a negative earnings of $3.8M in 2019 to a positive EBITDA in 2021 of $2.6M through significant improvements in sales of Medicure's flagship products and implementing spending controls. Also, Dr. Owens led Medicure's innovative and strategic acquisition of Marley Drug pharmacy in 2020, which made Medicure the first pharmaceutical manufacturer to sell medications directly to patients without need for insurance or a patient assistance program, thereby both removing barriers to patient access and improving margins. Under Dr. Owens' guide, Medicure is now poised to launch a Phase 3 study towards the first approved treatment of a rare pediatric disease.

Dr. Owens has worked with Medicure since 2014, most recently as Director of Scientific Affairs in clinical and product development, and previously in Medical Affairs. Dr. Owens received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Manitoba (Canada) and carried out postdoctoral research at the European Institute of Chemistry and Biology (France).
